THE PROPHECY OF
CALAMITIES

The-Prophecy-of-Calamities

INTRODUCTION

The prophecy of calamities that shall come upon the whole earth and its inhabitants, along with the preservation of a remnant, was noted by the Prophet Isaiah and others in God’s Word.  We live in a time that is increasing inviting such calamities due to the flotation and popularity of evilness as in the pre-Flood days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Babylon the hold of every foul spirit.

There is a walking away from godly precepts that once flourished but now diminishing due to the fullness of God’s Word not being promulgated as in the past.  There is a new generation of believers that no longer gives adherence to the words: Be not conformed to this world; but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove; what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

It was noted that be not conformed is to resist being poured into the mold of present day thinking, value systems, and conduct of this world.  There is escapism from adhering to God’s Word that will only further lead to the prophecy of calamities identified.

The Prophecy of Calamities
Beginning of Sorrows

Jesus said: You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end if not yet.  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom, against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences (deadly diseases), and earthquakes, in divers (various places). All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 26:6-8).

We are witnessing unrest in the world with nations seeking to dominate others; with an alignment of world powers towards defending, or taking over, the victims of oppression.  Peace, through sought after by some, continues to be evaded in a world in which the prophecy of calamities is becoming a reality.

Real peace is offered by Jesus, who said: Peace I leave with you, my peace, I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).  When trial and tribulation, identified by Jesus as the beginning of sorrows, unfolds, the only true and lasting peace comes from the Peace-Giver, the Lord Jesus Christ.

What is in Store After
the Beginning of Sorrows

Jesus said: Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted (have tribulation), and shall kill you; and you shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.  Then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. Many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Because iniquity (lawlessness) shall abound, the love of many shall wax (grow) cold. But he that endures to the end, the same shall be saved (Matthew 24:9-13).

The prophecy of calamities, identified by the Lord,  is becoming more viable and real each day.  We are witnessing nations divided with hatred spewed out one toward another.  We are witnessing deception at an all time high towards political or personal gain.  We are witnessing true being identified just enough to make a lie believable.  We are witnessing only a small portion of what is coming, as the prophecy of calamities take root, and begin to blossom forth.

Earth Shattering Events

The Prophet Isaiah prophesied some earth shattering events that will one day come forth.  He begin with saying the Lord makes the earth empty, makes it waste, and turns it upside down (distorts the surface), and scatters abroad the inhabitants thereof (Isaiah 24:1).  It was noted that this reveals the severity of the Tribulation Period, clearly defined in the Book of Revelations, and by the Prophet Jude.

Jude wrote: The Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince (convict) all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard (harsh) speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him (Jude 1:14-15).

He then identified the traits of such individuals: These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts (desires); and their mouth speaking great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration became of advantage (flattering people to gain advantage) (Jude 1:16).

Future Judgment

Apathy-before-the-Storm

The prophecy of calamities, according to the Prophet Isaiah, will one day be fulfilled; to the wonderment and amazement of many.  Isaiah noted: the land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled (plundered); for the Lord has spoken his word.  The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away; the haughty (proud) people of the earth do languish. The earth is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant (Isaiah 24:3-5).

The last portion of those words strike home; many lands have changed towards acceptance of ungodly ways, whereas before they were tuned into the ways of the Lord.  Apostle Peter noted, in the prophecy of calamities, that the world that then was (pre-Flood days of Noah), being overflowed with water perished (2 Peter 3:6).

The heavens and the earth, which are now by the same word, are kept in store, reserved unto fire against (until) the day of judgment and perdition (destruction) of ungodly men (2 Peter 3:6-7).  As events unfold toward ungodly ways; such will determine when the fulfillment of Isaiah and Peter’s prophecies become a reality.

Day of the Lord

In the prophecy of calamities, the Prophet Isaiah prophesied: It shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken (caught) in the snare; for the windows from high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake (Isaiah 24:18).

Apostle Peter wrote: The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements of the earth shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up (2 Peter 3:10).

We are living in a time that is ushering in the prophecy of calamities that will be executed, according to prophecy, in God’s timetable as events unfold leading to judgment.  When one is tuned into “What Thus saith the Lord” it is easy to identify that the fulfillment of prophecy is rapidly taking place.

Prophecy of Doom

The prophecy of calamites was further identified by the Prophet Isaiah, in writing: The earth shall reel (stagger) to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again (Isaiah 24:20).

The writer of the Book of Hebrews wrote: His voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, yet once more I shake not the earth only but also the heaven (Hebrews 12:26) and finished with an appeal: We receiving a kingdom that cannot be moved (shaken), let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear; for our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:28-29).

Being Led Astray

Opposition-to-Ungodly-Persuasion

Apostle Peter wrote: God turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow (destruction), making them an example to those that after (afterward) should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6).  It was a warning that has been ignored with the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah (homosexuality) being displayed with pride and promotion.

Seeing you know these things before (beforehand), beware lest you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace, and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:17-18).

The prophecy of calamities should make one take note and avoid being entrapped; however, with unrighteousness at an all time high; man has failed to heed the prophecy of calamities to be executed, upon the ungodliness of man.

Delay of God's Wrath

Apostle Peter identified the reason why God has delayed judgment, in writing: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). The severity of the Day of Judgment, described in the Book of Revelations, (Genesis, Chapters 17 through 19), will happen; as to when, God alone knows, but man can speed its advancement by ungodly and sinful maneuvering and promotion.

Scripture reveals: God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Apostle John wrote: He that believes on the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides (remains) on him (John 3:36).

Mercy Extended

The Prophet Isaiah wrote: The Lord shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before the ancients (elders) gloriously (Isaiah 24:23). Even in the midst of pronouncing judgment Isaiah noted restoration; just as the flood came (in the pre-Flood days of Noah) to destroy all breath of life on the earth; God made a provision for Noah, and his family, to survive to replenish the earth (Genesis 8:17).

Apostle Peter likewise noted that God made a provision for mankind, after declaring wrath and destruction of the earth and heavens to be destroyed by fire, in saying: Nevertheless we (the believer), according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. Wherefore, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless (2 Peter 3:13-14).

The choice lies with each individual as to where one's finale destination will be (Heaven or Hell); for as long as man continues to  breathe the God-given breath of life there is opportunity to make a decision for Christ, as one's Lord and Savior, with heaven as their final destination.
