Spirit of wisdom attributes to a God-given ability to accomplish that which God desires for the good of mankind; however, many are utilizing such to enhance ungodly agenda; offsetting the good originally intended!
We see this happening in the electronic age of television, internet, film industry, and many other venues, which have allowed the ungodliness of man to infiltrate, placing the morals of the land in jeopardy.
It was noted that wisdom, when attributed of God, influences such virtues as honesty, sobriety, chastity, reputation; including technical skills given to man. Scripture reveals of one such instance: And you (Moses) shall speak to all that are wisehearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's (the High Priest) garments to consecrate him, that he may minister to me in the priest's office (Exodus 28:3).
Apostle Paul identified the wisdom of believers in comparison to the wisdom of the world: Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things freely given to us of God. Which things we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but when the wisdom of the Holy Ghost (God's Spirit) teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:12-13).
Apostle Paul noted: The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14). It was noted that the natural man is unreceptive; he does not admit the truth to his heart.
As spiritual discernment is generated only by the Spirit of God, with capacity to know spiritual truth beyond the innate powers of the natural man. On the spiritual plane, the natural man (without God's Spirit) does not have the ability to sift the facts.
Apostle Paul wrote: Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (Satan), the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: among whom also we all had our conversation (conducted ourselves) in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others (Ephesians 2:2-3).
Children of wrath refers to those facing the divine punishment of God. Apostle John wrote: I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works (Revelation 20:12).
It was noted that the dead are the unbelieving dead who are judged from the books. These books contain the record of every unsaved person's life with each being judged in accordance with their works. John wrote: Whosoever is not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (a literal burning Hell) (Revelation 20:15).
The unsaved person did not take advantage of the offer of eternal life through faith. On the other hand, the book of life contains the name of every person who has received eternal life through faith.
Apostle Paul identified the works of the flesh (the sinful nature of man): Adultery (sex with someone other than one's spouse), fornication (sex outside biblical marriage), uncleanness (sexual impurity), lasciviousness (sexual excess), idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (discord), emulations (jealousy), wrath, strife, sedition (dissension), heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).
This
is speaking of individuals who habitually partake of the sinful nature
of man (fleshly desires). The fate of continued
participation, without repentance, is stated by the Apostle Paul (as identified in Verse 21): They which do such
things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Many have fallen into such a category in a day that the spirit of the world is more accommodating than the spirit of wisdom to avoid such pitfalls!
An illustration of lacking the spirit of wisdom, and its consequences, is noted in God's Word: And they said, let us build a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon (over) the face of the whole earth (Genesis 11:4).
It was noted that to make us a name was a focal point of rebellion against God. The very thing they were attempting to oppose; of being scattered upon the face of the earth, was instituted by God to dwarf their endeavors! They had become a godless society, lacking wisdom, full of pretensions, pleasures, and sin with no regard towards God; which had not gone unnoticed by God.
God's response towards man's effort: Let us go down, and confound their language (previously all spoke one language), that they may not understand one another's speech, to accomplish their own foolish and unwise endeavors (Genesis 11:7). The Psalmist declared: The Lord brings the counsel of the heathen (nations) to nought: he makes the devices (plans) of the people of none effect (Psalm 33:10)!
The Lord looks from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashions their hearts alike (individually); he considers (understands) all their works (Psalm 33:13-15). As in the case of the building of the city and tower towards heaven (previously noted); God is aware of what is happening in the world today!
God informed Moses: I have filled him (Bezaleel) with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and all manner of workmanship (Exodus 31:3). It was noted that to work all manner of work, for the sanctuary, many were called and filled with the spirit of wisdom to perform the craftsmanship required to accomplish such a feat.
I wonder how many, in past and present, have received a spirit of wisdom towards inventing things we now enjoy; which when initially invented was for the betterment of mankind. An example would be the invention of television; which was at first of wholesome family entertainment with moral values being taught.
Then little by little immoral content begin to filter in! The major networks allowed the erosion of godly values to escalate; allowing their censorship departments to be done away with!
God does not leave one in a sinful condition; if they will allow His Word to touch their heart and life. Apostle Paul wrote: God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loves us, even when we were dead in sins, has quickened (made us alive) together with Christ, by grace (His unmerited love), you are (have been) saved (Ephesians 2:4-5).
Still fresh in my mind is the day of my salvation! It was a glorious day; the lifting of a sin-ridden life towards a heavenly gain. There was a walking away from the condemnation of past sins, to a blood bought life in Christ, who died for us, all who will come to know Him, by shedding His precious blood for the remission of sins.
Apostle John wrote: If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his (God's) Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (1 John 1:7-8).
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). If any man sin, we have an advocate (intercessor) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation (atonement) for our sins; and not for our sins only, but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2). The spirit of wisdom is in receiving what God provided for mankind so long ago; that is just as fresh and viable today as then!
Jesus extends an invitation to all: I stand at the door and knock (door of one's heart); if any man (or woman) hear my voice, and open the door (only you can), I will come in to him, and will sup (dine and fellowship) with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20).
