Spawning of ungodliness is becoming enhanced by an electronic age that has blossomed forth in these latter days towards instant social interaction, information, and entertainment. If such were to be alleviated, to those addicted to its influence, it would cause a major withdrawal syndrome.
Spawning is a term used concerning the mass amount of eggs being deposited by fish or amphibian. It was noted that the salmon swims upstream to spawn in the stream where they were themselves hatched. They migrate to this spot impelled by instinct; fighting the rapids, leaping high falls to reach their spawning grounds. There is a similarity in the fact that when one enhances the spawning of ungodliness they will, as the salmon, go to all extremes to plant their venomous influence.
On the Day of Pentecost when the Apostle Peter spoke to those gathered together; it was noted that the people were cut to the heart by the words spoken, asking: What shall we do? Peter answered: Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (forgiveness) of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (God's Spirit).
For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward (morally perverse) generation (Acts 2:37-40).
Such advice is needful today as we see a spawning of ungodliness being promulgated; seemingly with little or no restraint. The ungodly culture being spread is being consumed; even within the church in many cases, having become blinded to the righteousness required in God's Word.
A famous 19th century French statesman, and historian, traveled to a America to discover the reasons for its incredible success, He wrote: Not until I went into the churches and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.
A legendary evangelist of the first Great Awakening, Charles G. Finney noted: Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours to a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact; but let us lay it to heart, and awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
Dereliction of duty in the pulpit has helped promote the spawning of ungodliness. There are those who have been silenced, by their own acceptance of the ungodly culture being presented, with little or no restraint being put forth to dwarf its advancement.
Spawning of ungodliness has become increasingly more advanced with the promotion of profanity, vulgarity, and nudity. We are seeing this advancement rob nations of their morals, and Christian heritage, with few standing in the gap for the land that God's judgment would not fall.
Many, even Christians, are becoming desensitized or immune to the ungodly language structure, immoral portrayals, and nudity being displayed through electronic means; viewing questionable content with little conviction or shame. Scripture does not condone the behavioral habits being allowed to penetrate lives.
The Psalmist wrote: Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (wicked), nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law does he meditate day and night (Psalm 1:1-2).
God's Word gives amply instruction to not be influenced by the spawning of ungodliness; which spreads its infectious influence, warning against such pitfalls.
Apostle Jude wrote: There are certain men crept in unawares (unnoticed), who were before of old (long ago) ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness (a license to immorality), and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 1:4). The only difference today is that such have become more bold in proclaiming ungodly lifestyles, with no sense of shame but rather pride.
The spawning of ungodliness has not gone unnoticed by God, for Apostle Jude noted: Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied saying, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince (convict) all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard (harsh) speeches, which ungodly sinners have spoken against him (Jude 1:14-15).
Apostle Peter wrote: God spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemning them with an overthrow (destruction), making them an example to those that after (afterward) should live ungodly (2 Peter 2:5-6).
The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished (2 Peter 2:9). But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word, are kept in store, reserved unto fire against (until) the day of judgment and perdition (destruction) of ungodly men (2 Peter 3:7).
Such words give warning to the wicked but a promise to the faithful. The ungodly may feel like they are victorious in their endeavor towards the spawning of ungodliness but God's Word exposes the reality of such. Apostle Paul wrote: The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold (suppress) the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).
Apostle Peter wrote: For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear (1 Peter 4:17-18)?The church, in many nations, is vastly different from previous years of commitment towards the Word of God. The spawning of ungodliness has infiltrated with acceptance and tolerance becoming a norm.
Apostle Paul wrote: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent (without self-control), fierce, despisers of those that are good.
Traitors, heady (reckless), high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away (2 Timothy 3:1-5). It was noted that a form of godliness is mere religion without power or spiritual life.
The last church spoken of in the Book of Revelations is the Laodicea church. In speaking to this church, the Lord said: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would (wish) you wert (were) cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth (reject you) (Revelation 3:15-16).
The spawning of ungodliness and worldliness has been allowed to infiltrate the church, with such terms as sanctification (being set apart to God), righteousness (that which is right in the sight of God), and holiness (without which no man shall see the Lord - Hebrews 12:14) becoming a byproduct of yesteryear.
Scripture reveals: Let us hold fast the profession (confession) of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:23). Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition (destruction): but of them that believe in the saving of the soul (Hebrews 10:38-39).
Apostle Paul wrote: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable (rational) service. And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2).
The spawning of ungodliness has come in like a flood but the believer does not have to succumb to such an influence. When one walks in accordance with God's Word, having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, being forgiven of all sin, the world looks vastly different than prior to one's conversion to Christ.
Apostle Paul wrote: But now being made free from sin, and become servants (dedicated) to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:22-23). Neither is salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men (the Lord Jesus Christ), whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
