A Flaming Sword
A flaming sword was at the hands of a heavenly being to guard access to the Tree of Life when man became disobedient to God's commandment. Privileges and responsbilities once given were now lost. The previously close communion with God, the bless and glory of a literal paradise on earth was lost.
God's judgment could have been sterner, for man could have been sent to a place of torment, rather than a place of toil, or to the grave rather than to till the ground. The believer in Christ, who is obedient to God's commandments, is blessed in that one day access to the Tree of Life will be restored (Revelations 2:7).
A Regretful Decision
As Adam tilled the ground, by the sweat of his brow, I wonder how often his thoughts reflected on the paradise he was driven from. As his body began to grow old and feeble, as age took its toll, I wonder how often his thoughts returned to the Tree of Life now guarded by a flaming sword.
I believe this nation is making its way towards a destination that it will regret. America has been blessed beyond measure but is making a reversal towards its benefactor. It is being deceived by a few overbearing individuals who are attemping to instill their own agenda. They are attempting to numb the population to acceptability of their beliefs and practices.
Casting Aside the Word of God
The Word of God, in many instances, has been cast aside to entertain the pleasantries of the world. Holiness, sanctification, and righteous living are no longer an accepted venue in the world in which we live.
The apostle Paul wrote: I marvel that you are so soon removed (or turning away) from him that called you into the grace of Christ to another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would (or want to) pervert the gospel of Christ (Galatians 1:6-10). So soon removed can be translated, so quickly deserting. A true believer in Christ continually lives in obedience to the will of God in his normal course of life.
