TESTIMONY OF GOD'S GRACE

My testimony is of God's Grace. When I was a teenage I enrolled in a Red Cross Lifesaving class. Its purpose was to equip one to save someone from drowning. I failed the class, because I could not hold my breathe long enough to swim down to the bottom of the pool and pick up a ten pound weight, but I did learn the technique of saving one from drowning.

In 1968 I experienced a lifesaving technique both physically and spiritually. I needed rescue from a life dominated by sin and a life-threatening situation. While in an alcohol stupor I was stabbed twice in the side with the loss of a large amount of blood. I was rushed to the hospital, in a foreign land, with the ambulance's siren blaring and red lights flashing. It was one of the lonelier times of my life lying on the operation table not knowing what was to happen. I turned to the God of my youth and made three promises if He would spare my life.

It was ten years later before I was to fulfill those promises. The promises - I would quit drinking, quit using profanity, and become more religious. In 1978 I yieldly my life completely over to the Lord and have been serving Him ever since. Now when I sing "Amazing Grace" I know that truly I have experienced God's grace and a lifesaving technique not only of a physical nature but more importantly a spiritual one!
