A Giving Nature
A giving nature is of necessity as a child of God. Scripture enjoins such activity by asking: Who has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels (or heart) of compassion for him, how dwells the love of God in him? Then comes the answer: Let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and truth (1 John 3:17-18). In tongue refers to mere talk. Love that observes need, and does not act to minister to it, is no love at all.
A man came to Jesus saying, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. The Lord responded with: Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things that he possesses (Luke 12:13-15). The Lord was not leaning towards the furthering of someone's selfish interests, but towards one serving the Lord and others, not themselves.
Sow Plentifully
The Lord said: Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use it shall be measured to you again (Luke 6:38).
A commentary, in addressing the above scripture, revealed: Men shall return it to your bosom; for God often makes use of men as instruments, of his rewarding justice. If we in a right manner give to others when they need, God will incline the hearts of others to give to us when we need. They that sow plentifully shall reap plentifully; whom God recompenses he recompenses abundantly.
Failing to Give
The Book of James addresses the subject of failing to give in saying: If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say to them, depart in peace, be you warm and filled; notwithstanding you give them not those things, which are needful to the body; what does it profit (James 2:15-16)? They are merely empty words uttered for no effort was extended to meet the need.
I believe that we have seen just a sliver of what will one day face this nation as our economy woes continue to flourish rather than be abated. I believe there will be amply opportunities to help our brother and sister in need, if one does not look the other way, to horde rather than give (as illustrated by the man who's ground brought forth abundantly - Luke 12:12-21). Scripture reveals that one is to labor, working with his hands the thing that is good; that he may have to give to him that has need (Ephesians 4:28).
God Will Bless a Giving Nature
God will bless faithfulness; a giving nature, virtues that are in tune to His Word. He will likewise continue to bless a nation that has the same qualities. When one begins to deviate from His precepts, His blessings will cease to flow. A giving nature also entails loving God, and being in obedience to His Word.
