A Classic Christian
Darlene Gay
CLASSIC CAR: He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake (Psalm 23:3). HOLY SPIRIT: Restore to me the joy of my your salvation; and uphold me with your free spirit (Psalm 51:12). FINISH LINE: For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, said the Lord, because they called you an Outcast (Jeremiah 30:17).
Restoration Process to Become a Classic
Find an old worn out car, strip it down, pressure wash it. Put new parts on it: engine, transmission, carburetor, plugs, points, coil, new wiring, head lights, tail lights, signal lights, brake lights, upholstery, wheels and tires, put in oil and transmission fluid; may need new windows and key made for the ignition. Have a paint job applied. Try to start it and nothing happens.
Then you remember the gas for it needs fuel to run. You turn the key on but nothing happens. Then you remember a battery the power to prime the carburetor; you turn the key and it stars and purrs like a kitten. Now you have a classic car, a thing of beauty that is efficient.
How About Us?
It is the same with us. When we are in sin we are like the old worn out car, in terrible disrepair, rusted and dirty from a life of sin. There is no beauty in us. Then the Lord has us pressure washed in the blood of the Lamb, gives us a new heart, a new paint job until we shine for Him, but we are not finished yet, now we need fuel to run on which is sanctification.
We still are not running efficiently. Then we receive the Holy Spirit but we still are not finished. We spend time in prayer, fasting and reading of God's Word, putting on the whole armor of God. Now we can run on full power, a thing of beauty, a classic Christian for our Lord and Savior.
This Life Is A Race We Must Run
This life is a race we must run. We cannot let up, we cannot slow down, we cannot look back, we cannot falter, we cannot stop, we cannot sit down. We must keep our eyes straight ahead and we must stay focused. We must keep our heart fixed on the prize that awaits us at the finish line: Jesus, Heaven, and the Crown of Life, an eternal rest from the toils, heartaches, burdens, and trials of life. We can lay them all down at the feet of Jesus.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest in hope (Psalm 16:9). Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him (Psalm 37:7). Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls (Matthew 11:28-29).
The End Result of Being A Classic Christian
We can feast at the Lord's Table for eternity because we held out to the end. We will not have to say "Are we there yet?" We will know for sure that we have arrived for we will have the greatest welcome anyone has ever received. "Welcome Home My Child, Enter into My Rest" our precious Lord will say. You have finally made it home; you have finally arrived at your destination, Heaven. Revelations 3:21 reveals: To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with My Father in His throne.
